Renting out rooms in your house
Rents are at an all time high in the Portland and Vancouver Area. A lot of people are struggling with their high mortgage payments and don’t know where to turn…Are you one of them? Have you exhausted your options but don’t want to ruin your credit by defaulting…Have you ever considered taking on a roommate? It’s a great idea if you have extra space and need the extra income. Instead of falling behind on your mortgage, reach out to loved ones, friends and co-workers to see if perhaps someone needs a room. This is becoming more and more popular with homeowners as it really alleviates the burden of a large mortgage.
There are plenty of ways to go about this. Like we mentioned before, reaching out to those you know is the best idea, but you can also use Craigslist and other sites to find a great roommate in need. And to ease your mind, there are a number of background check websites and resources available to people like yourself who may not know how to go about doing a check on someone. It’s important to do so and even if you technically aren’t a landlord, you’ll want to make sure you follow the guidelines for renting out space in your home.
Also, consider a roommate who may want to pitch in around the house. You might end up renting a room to a real green thumb who likes to tinker in the yard. The great thing is now would be the time to do so. Rents are so high in the area that plenty of folks are looking for single rooms in regular homes. It’s also a great way to make a friend for life. Granted, you may not hit the jackpot every time, but if you do your research and find a good one you click with, having a roommate can be a win-win situation.
